How to compare two scanners

A feature list says little until you attach it to a workflow. Start with how you actually handle cards. Do you scan one card after a meeting, or come back from an exhibition with eighty? Are your cards in English only, or mixed with Hindi, Gujarati or Tamil? Do you need the contacts only on your phone, or in a spreadsheet?

Then ask the same six questions of each app:

  1. Scanning and review. How are fields extracted, and how easy is it to correct them?
  2. Languages. Which scripts are read, and can they appear on the same card?
  3. Organization. What can you do with a contact after it is saved?
  4. Sharing your own card. Which formats can you send?
  5. Export and backup. Can you take your contacts with you?
  6. Pricing and privacy. What is free, what is paid, and what happens to your data?

Cardenius publishes this blog, so read the Cardenius column below as vendor information. For CamCard, the right column lists what to check on its current store listing, plan page and privacy policy.

Scanning and correcting

Both apps start from a photo of a card. Where they can differ is in how many scans you get on a free plan, how multilingual cards are handled and how much work it is to fix a wrong field.

On Cardenius, the Free plan includes 5 AI scans a day and Premium removes that limit. Premium also adds Batch Scan. If you scan five cards a week, a daily cap rarely matters. If you return from an exhibition with eighty cards, it matters a great deal.

No scanner reads every card perfectly. Cardenius shows the extracted fields so you can review and correct them before saving, and whichever app you pick should make that step quick.

Organizing and following up

A saved contact is only useful if you can find it and act on it. Cardenius supports categories, tags with multi-tag filtering, search, bilingual search, a lead pipeline, notes with interaction history and reminders. On the Free plan you get 3 categories and 3 reminders. Premium adds Event Mode, Meeting Mode and Map / Nearby.

For any app, check what happens six weeks later: can you find the person you met at a particular event, see what you last discussed, and be reminded to follow up? The guide to organizing hundreds of business cards shows what a working system looks like.

Sharing your own card

Cardenius Digital Cards can be shared on WhatsApp, as a QR code, as a PDF or image, as a link, as a vCard or as text. The Free plan includes 5 Digital Card templates and Premium adds more themes. PDF is a Digital Card sharing format. It is not an export format for saved contacts, which export as CSV, Excel or vCard.

If most of your follow-up happens on WhatsApp, read how to share your business card on WhatsApp.

Pricing and privacy

Read plan pages for three things: what the free plan caps (contacts, scans, features), what a trial includes, and what paid plans unlock. Cardenius offers a free plan, a 15-day trial with no credit card (up to 50 contacts or cards during the trial) and Premium.

For privacy, look at what the app asks permission for, whether it offers an app-level lock, how backups are stored and what the privacy policy says about your contacts. Cardenius includes App Lock and encrypted cloud backup. Read each app’s policy yourself rather than relying on a summary, including this one.

How to read any comparison, including this one

Comparison articles are usually written by one of the products being compared, and they date quickly. Before you rely on one, look for three things: when the facts were checked, which cards or workflows were used, and whether each claim can be checked on the product’s own page. Treat anything that cannot be checked as an opinion.

That is why the CamCard column in the table above is a list of things to look up rather than a set of claims. Plans, limits and features change often, and the current page is the source that counts.

Events and team use

If you attend events, look at what each app does with a large batch. For Cardenius, the Free plan stops at 50 contacts and 5 AI scans a day, while Premium adds Event Mode and Batch Scan with no limit on contacts or scans. Work out how many cards you collect in a busy week and see which plan covers it.

For teams, think about how contacts move between people. Cardenius exports saved contacts as CSV, Excel or vCard, which is enough to hand a list to a colleague or load it into another tool. If you need shared accounts or direct CRM sync, check the current options of any app you are considering.

If you decide to switch

Switching scanners is mostly a matter of moving a file. Export your contacts from the old app as CSV or vCard, import them into the new one, and open a few records to make sure the names, numbers and companies landed in the right fields. Keep the old app and its data until you have checked, and do not delete anything until you are sure.

Cardenius imports CSV, vCard and phone contacts. On your side, the main thing to check is that your old app lets you export at all, and in which format.

Which workflow may suit which user

  • Cards in several Indian scripts. Check language handling first. Cardenius reads 10+ Indian scripts alongside English on the same card. Test any app with your own cards. See scanning in Hindi, Gujarati and other languages.
  • Scanning without a signal. Test each app in airplane mode. Cardenius has on-device recognition, described in the offline guide.
  • Large batches after events. Compare scan limits, contact limits and batch tools.
  • Mainly sharing your own card. Compare the sharing formats and templates each app offers.
  • A shared team database or CRM. This guide covers individual workflows. Check each app’s current team and integration options separately.

A ten-card test before you commit

  1. Pick ten cards from your own stack, including a glossy one, a dark one and one in two languages.
  2. Scan the same cards in both apps in the same light.
  3. Count the fields each app got wrong and how long the corrections took.
  4. Try one scan in airplane mode.
  5. Export five contacts and open the file in the place you actually use contacts.

Ten cards and ten minutes will tell you more than any feature table. Moving contacts between apps is also easier than it sounds: Cardenius imports CSV and vCard files and phone contacts, so check which of those formats your current app can export.

Key takeaways

  • Compare apps on your own workflow: where you scan, which languages your cards use, and what you do with contacts afterwards.
  • Cardenius Free includes up to 50 contacts and 5 AI scans a day. Premium removes those limits.
  • Competitor details change. Check CamCard’s current plan page, language list and privacy policy before deciding.
  • A ten-card test on your own cards is more reliable than any feature table.
